Follow These Steps to Making Your Free Website

Go to Google and search for "free website template." Search through the websites that appear until you find a free website template that you like. You will be able to change the pictures and colors of the free website template, so mainly focus on the layout of the website template. It is important to keep in mind that if a website looks and/or acts shady, it probably is. So be careful as you are searching for website templates and DO NOT download anything until you have read reviews about the site to ensure you are not downloading a virus.
After you have selected your free website template for designing your free website, download the website template, save the files to your computer.
Open Kompozer HTML code editing software (if you do not have this, do a search on google for "Kompozer HTML editing software" and it will come up).
Open the index file (home page) of the website template you downloaded.
You can now begin editing the free website template in Kompozer and begin designing your new free website.

Adding the HTML Title Tag

In search engine optimization, one of the most important items to get your page to come up in the search results is what you Title the page. This is called the Title of the page. You can see an example of the Title tag and how it shows up in the Google search results page by clicking on the example below. In this example, we conducted a search for the term "search engine optimization." At the top of the page, you will see three paid ads that appear. Below the three paid ads, begins the organic search results which is where search engine optimization will help to get you. The first organic search in this example is "Search Engine Optimization - Wikipedia."

Notice how all of the top websites have the term "search engine optimization" at the beginning of the Title. This term is also bolded meaning that it matches what we searched for. This is why it is extremely important to Title your page for the keywords your want the search engines to index your page for. As we will see in other trainings, the Title of the page is not the only thing you do for search engine optimization, but plays a major role.

What Does the Title Tag Look Like?

Now let's look at what a Title tag looks like in a webpage. The Title tag is written in hypertext markup language or HTML. HTML is the predominant markup language for writing webpages. Browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc) are able to read the HTML language and show you a webpage. Here is an example of an HTML Title tag: Title of the document. When the browser reads this, it reads "Title of the Document" as the Title of this page.

How to Find the Title Tag Using Your Browser

Let's look at the Title tag of this page you are viewing. If you are using Firefox, simply press "ctrl + u" to view the source of the page. If you are using Internet Explorer, go to "page" and then "view source." If you are using another browser, do a search to find out how to view the page source. This will allow you to view the source (or HTML code) of the webpage you are viewing. When you view the source of this page, scroll down until you see the tags. The Title of this webpage is "HTML Title Tags | Search Engine Optimization Training on How to Add Title Tags To Webpages."

Being able to add HTML Title tags to your webpages really depends on the website software you are using to create your webpages. Choosing The Domain Name For Your Website and Naming Individual Pages

In search engine optimization, one of the important items to get your page to come up in the search results is what you choose for a Domain Name of your website. Althought this is not as important as many of the other steps in the search engine optimization process, it is still believed by many of the SEO experts to hold some weight with the search engines. You can see an example of the the Domain Name of your website and how it shows up in the Google search results page by clicking on the example below. In this example, we conducted a search for the term "internet marketing." At the top of the page begins the organic search results, which is where search engine optimization will help to get you. The first organic search in this example is "Internet Marketing - Wikipedia."

Google Search Results and The Domain Name

Notice how all of the top websites have the term "internet marketing" either in the domain name or in name of the specific webpage. In the Wikipedia example, the domain name is not internet marketing, but the webpage name is "internet marketing" and it matches what we searched for. Let's look at the second example we used, the website is www.internetmarketing.com. This website selected internetmarketing.com as their domain name as this is a primary keyword they wanted to come up for. Notice also that the word "internet marketing" is bolded in the domain name and in the individual pages because this is the term we searched for. It is important to choose a domain name and to name each page of your website for your keywords and to get your pages indexed in the search engines. As we will see in other SEO trainings, choosing the domain name and naming pages is not the only thing you do for search engine optimization, but most experts in the field believe it plays a role.

What Does the Domain Name Look Like?

Now let's look at what the Domain Name looks like. Common domain names are www.google.com, www.yahoo.com and www.cocacola.com. The Domain you choose is the unique address for your website on the world wide web. Domain names are purchased from businesses that sell domain names such as www.godaddy.com.

How to Choose a Domain Name?

When selecting a website's domain name, it is a important part of the search engine optimization process to select a domain name that represents what your website is going to be about. As stated before, this is not an all important step, but many SEO experts believe that it does have some impact on the search engine results. To select a domain name, simply go to a domain name registrar such as GoDaddy.com to see if the domain name you want is available. Domain names can then be registered for as little as $10 a year.
